Streep sings ABBA in 'Mama Mia'

Academy-award winning actress Meryl Streep has turned into a singer in the musical version of the Swedish band ABBA tribute "Mama Mia." In it, Streep is Donna (Streep) is about to let go of Sophie (Amanda Seyfried), the spirited daughter she s raised alone.

For Sophie s wedding, Donna has invited her two lifelong best girlfriends practical and no-nonsense Rosie (Julie Walters) and wealthy, multi-divorcee Tanya (Christine Baranski) from her one-time backing band, Donna and the Dynamos. But Sophie has secretly invited three guests of her own. Three men who Sophie is trying to see if they are her father in order to walk her down the aisle.

Does Streep accomplish herself as a singer? Maybe. I do think that with such notables as "Dancing Queen," "Lay All Your Love On Me," "Super Trouper," Streep does an okay job. I think that the one thing that Streep has on her is the fact that this is the second film that is meant to have meaning behind it. But not in a musical sense; remember that film, "Music of the Heart?" Okay I don't either.

Yet, for that film's unsuccess this might have inspired her to do this. I mean, the film does have an all-star cast. The cast includes Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan SkarsgÄrd, Christine Baranski, Julie Walters, Amanda Seyfried and Dominic Cooper. And they all sing and dance.
